New York Update-Shana Tova
David Franklin
Barry has been such a mensch in keeping us all connected. With the current Twin Towers attack, his efforts to help us check in have been invaluable. This Friday night right before Shabbat our family stood outside our house with a candle connecting with dozens of other families locally, and thousands across the country seeking solice, solidarity and support. I was touched by this spontaneous. Living in an urban area like New York, it's easy to have contact with one's neighbors. Yes, there are advantages of living in a highly populated area.

Eleven of 30 fireman from the local Park Slope fire house are currently missing. The community has respond in a profoundly moving way, with a candle light vigil, by cooking meals, and through visiting and raising money for them. Many of the four-year-old boys in my daughter's pre-school have very close relationships with The Twin Towers and with Fire Stations. They have been the building blocks of many of their fantasy lives. Sadly, we have been watching them mourn these friends.

It just overwhelming. I feel as though my consciousness is bending, swaying with new data of suffering, of adapting to the new shape of the city, of mourning, and by the cognition that we may be entering a long military initiative. Balancing my yearnings for peace, security and the protection of individual freedoms has been challenging.

The Movfty Reunion was just spectacular. It reminded me of the extensive impact Movfty still plays on my life. I continue to be inspired by the kindness, wisdom and creativity of the folks that I met during my Movfty years.

Wishing you all a High Holidays of reflection, rest and insight,

David Franklin
